Help Kickstart The Leeds Creative Family Tree
Journal · 21st October 2013
We launched a crowd funding campaign on Kickstarter last week to help fund the printing of the first two volumes of the new Leeds Creative Family Tree: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1943164995/leeds-creative-family-trees-quarry-hill-mabgate-sh
This not-for-profit project aims to raise people’s awareness of like minded individuals and organisations around them whilst showing what a creative and culturally-rich place Leeds is.
After only the first week we reached 50% of the total £1,500 needed to fund the printing for the family trees… but we need your help for the rest!
This project all started in late winter 2012. Photographer Sara Teresa, who works from the Split Studio, was planning the Quarry Hill Social – A social networking event for creative businesses and individuals in the area. For the event we designed the Quarry Hill Family Tree (below) as a way to introduce everyone to everyone else within the Quarry Hill ‘family’.
Upon receiving a great reception both on Quarry Hill and further afield, we decided to expand the idea to all of Leeds. This is no small task, so we’re starting with two new versions – an updated edition for Quarry Hill and a new edition covering the Mabgate/Sheepscar area of Leeds.
These new volumes will include any organisations or individuals who are directly involved with producing, realising or showcasing creative and cultural work. The ultimate goal being to map all of central Leeds, creating a volume of the Family Tree for each area of the city.
There’s also a website on it’s way to support and promote the project, and we’re planning a launch party for January.

All donations, however small, will be a big help and much appreciated!
