Packaging and Identity Design for Unusual Ingredients — a multi-sensory project bringing to life the relationships between sound and flavour.
Each track is accompanied by corresponding ingredients to be eaten whilst listening – the foods’ flavours, textures, and sounds interacting with, and even being altered by, the music itself. This very special box includes multiple portions of the ingredients, packaged in glass test tubes, petri dishes, and encased in specially-cut foam packaging.

Drawing on the latest gastrophysical research into sensory perception, the music uses exact sonic frequencies and musical gestures calibrated to enhance the feels and flavours of each ingredient. Think Willy Wonka – meets electronic music – meets cutting-edge science.
Clad in natural kraft board and wrapped in a cream bellyband, the box set featured eight glass test tubes, two Petri dishes and a selection of individually wrapped ingredients set into a custom-made foam mould. The box opens from the centre to reveal an illustrated tasting guide, with the vinyl safely slotted behind.

Unusual ingredients was created by musicians Jacob Thompson-Bell and Adam Martin, and food artist Caroline Hobkinson. As well as the limited edition vinyl, the release is also available digitally with the food elements available to buy as a pack separately.
